Pain is a challenge from birth. How you learn about pain, who helps you when you are in pain, and how the future looks when pain becomes part of your life, are all important to understand. I don’t think we should wait until we are adults to talk about pain. For 20 years I have been working to promote a better science and understanding of children’s pain, including innovating new treatment models, and promoting better assessment and treatment.
As the world starts to accept that early pain experience is important and that children can and do have chronic pain, so the thirst for better and more treatments grows. Let’s focus on making children’s pain better, on improving the next generation’s experience of pain.
